Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) Feeding

This course aims to increase the knowledge and practice of PEG feeding for care/support workers in the aged care/disability residential and home and community services. This course is intended primarily for caretakers who are assisting clients who need tube feeding and have a PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) tube. This session helps carers get the knowledge and abilities needed to support the person who is having trouble eating, help with the PEG care and management, and understand the importance of the tube.
This classroom-based course incorporates theory, a knowledge assessments and practical activities. Gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills from qualified trainers with expertise.
Course Description
The course will provide you with knowledge about:
  • What is PEG feeding?
  • Why is an enteral feeding tube inserted?
  • Types of enteral feeding tubes
  • Different types of PEG feeding methods
  • Skin and stoma care
  • Oral hygiene and PEG feeding
  • Risks/complications including infection, aspiration, and tube dislodgement.

Approximately 2 – 3 hours

Course Delivery

This course is delivered face to face and will require successful completion of a theory and practical assessment. On the day of the session, you will receive a copy of the pre-course reading material, which must be read before attempting any assessment activities.
